In the future, mankind no longer requires sleep - a drug is discovered that removes the need for sleep - and society enters a new, seemingly golden age of productivity and awareness. Soon, however, world governments take notice of the potential of this drug and enforce it as a mandatory part of life. Civilians are jailed and even put to death for missing a dose, and world military powers race to discover new and powerful versions of The Cure for their own purposes. Other darker, more sinister organizations have their own set of goals, some of which involved manipulating the veil of reality itself.
