Is there a Hell on earth? Sam and Ella Bauer learned the answer to that question when they inherited a lodge in a small area in Southern Colorado in the town of Mara Lake. The town was a tourist resort that catered to boaters and fishermen, until bizarre events made people begin leaving as quickly as possible. Only the hard core loners found the courage to stay, but they all shared a dark secret. When the Bauer's arrived in Mara Lake everything seemed fairly normal, to Sam at least, but Ella had reservations about the lodge and the town. Her first encounter with the dead came a week after she arrived at the lodge, a lodge that wasn't haunted but was possessed. Little by little odd things became nightmarish encounters that made her want to go back to the city. The lodge had a history, as well as the town, and everybody in the nearby town of Pinecrest was aware of it. In Pinecrest, a psychologist becomes involved in the nightmare, but he has his own set of demons to explore in Mara Lake. His obsession with childhood events led to an involvement with the Bauer's, an involvement that led him down a path of destruction. Can spirits become human in form, and can an entire town disappear? Is there really so much evil in some places that it's in the very soil and the water that people drink. Some would say no, that's impossible, but to the Bauer's, it is very real.
