The depression has hit the Corlee family hard and when sixteen year-old Susan is sent to spend the summer with her uncle and aunt on the Maine coast, she initially despairs of making friends, anticipating months of loneliness. She soon finds though, that teenagers are the same wherever you go, and discovers new friendships. At the same time, she becomes fascinated by Cairn’s Point, a deserted island off the coast, which her uncle warns her is strictly out of bounds, telling dark stories of ancient witches to frighten her into staying away. Not easily scared, Susan decides to visit the island, little realising the mysterious forces that lurk there…
