Confessions of a Remorseful Vampire

In 1725, the life of a Polish peasant in the isolated mountain village of Ciemny Gora wasn't as drab a scenario as one might suspect. Yes, life was short and misery abounded. But incredibly, there were some things to brighten one's day; sweeping a dirt floor, contracting typhus, contemplating the possibility of marauding, invading hordes. Coveting your neighbor's shiny new washtub, which you plot to steal after dark. Trying to survive the night. Yes, trying to survive the night because you have something the village priest wants . . . it's your blood. What's a peasant to do? Ciemny Gora village priest, Father Marek Petrushka, died a most unusual death but survived the physical limitations imposed by it by becoming a loathsome pest of the night-a vampire. Marek returns from the dead to settle unfinished business. More importantly, he returns because of a desire so strong it circumvents death. A desire so strong it can't be denied. Young Marek felt it his duty and obligation to grant the life wish of his dead mother, that he become a Roman Catholic priest. He also felt it necessary recompense for his Russian father's debauched life and sins. Marek's own dreams and desires and the love of his life, Natassia, are forgotten . . . until he returns, but not as the living. Confessions of a Remorseful Vampire is horror/humor. It is a personal account, narrated in the twenty-first century by the enduring Marek Petrushka, only he is not really so remorseful. It is a dark parody yet a lively one. It is in the style of the 1967 Roman Polanski film The Fearless Vampire Killers, Or: Pardon Me, But Your Teeth Are In My Neck. Confessions is written in alternate chapters of retrospect and introspect. In retrospect, Marek recalls his childhood, adolescence, and life as a priest, as well as imparting fond memories of gleefully desanguinating his beloved flock upon his inception as one of the hungry dead.
