A pallid, depressed and hopeless fourteen-year-old boy is isolated from the outside world. He lives in an ancient ancestral manor, enclosed within walls containing a dark, mysterious garden. The day he was born coincided with the beginning of a string of deaths. His twelve brothers and sisters began dying one every year, each under suspicious circumstances, before the age of fifteen. By family tradition, fifteen is considered the age of adulthood, and the age at which each child must decide to either leave the garden permanently or stay and carry on the family name. On the threshold of his fifteenth birthday, he begins to slowly uncover the mystery behind the deaths of his siblings and discovers the evil in the manor and garden. This revelation opens his eyes to the outside world and propels him forward on what is to become his life’s mission.
