Darkshades

Love may know no bounds, but class distinction most certainly does. When the young, unwanted Arabella Grey was granted the position of housekeeper at Darkshades, she was grateful and naive. But she had no sooner set foot on the grounds, than the ghosts of the past were upon her. Old Jacob, the ever faithful Darkshade's servant, is Arabella's only friend in this crumbling old home. Lottie Darkshade was far more daunting than any phantom, and Arabella was under no illusion regarding the hatred the manor’s mistress had for her. Lottie Darkshade was under no illusion herself, that this opportunistic young woman was set on taking her precious son Damien from her. Damien, whom fate had stolen her first precious moments with after his birth, was all hers now that his pretty young wife was gone. Crystal, who had not even been good enough to birth him a healthy heir. Like the burnt out East wing of Darkshades Manor which at first denies the young housekeeper access to its interior, Damien Darkshade begins a remarkable restoration under the presence of Arabella. But the ghosts of the past are ever present. Suspicious happenings cannot be ignored forever. Will the blossoming friendship between master and housekeeper, though of noble descent but relegated to a subservient future, be allowed to persist? Will the icy cold at the top of the staircase eventually have its way?
