John Sample just died. As a spirit, he must follow his earthly body from the hospital morgue, to the funeral home and finally, out to the Garden of Peace cemetery, At the cemetery, John learns that he is not only not at rest; he is trapped within the graveyard boundaries along with many other souls who share his fate. During the day, John gets to know the other spirits and at night, he recalls his own life from beginning to end. John's beloved wife of 43 years died two years earlier, and he is desperate to be with her once again. His best guess is that she has gone on to heaven, so John decides to do whatever is necessary to follow her there. S. E. Stanley's compelling story of life, death, and the afterlife sweeps the reader through lifetimes of suffering and laughter, fear and bravery, and failure and success.
