In addition to the children’s tales that he is usually known for, Frank R. Stockton also wrote some ghost stories. This particular piece, from 1900, almost combines the two styles, for a light-hearted holiday haunting. In it, a ghost roams the mansion where he used to reside, spending his days, much as he once did, in thoughtful repose. Learning that Christmas isn’t being celebrated, he decides to intervene.
