The only pets they had were edible, e.g. chicken and pigs. With little television and being shy, he would spend time with the chickens and imagine stories like a child would with toy soldiers. Now with children of his own and living in the city, he keeps the animal stories alive by telling them as bedtime stories. There is freedom in telling such animal stories to children as they relate to an animal's character, not by race. It can teach them that differences in people are more than the voice they speak or the shade of their skin.

About the Author

Like most authors I was born next to my mother who was in the hospital at the time.My parents taught me a lot of things when I was growing up. How to play catch, like catch a rabbit or possum.My first toy was a piece of  3 ply jute string, 12 inches long. After a few more years my next present was the deluxe 3 ply multi strand double cotton rayon blend string, 24 inches long with a knot in it to keep me occupied. These gifts may seem useless to some, to me it showed the lengths of extravagance my parents went to show me the true meaning of love and nurturing.I created a lot of memories with these pieces of string including making a double knot leash for my favourite rooster.The love and bond I developed with my first pet, as I am sure all young kids do, will last forever.The taste of Southern Fried chicken shall always hit me deep inside, or is that indigestion?Never be afraid to be true to yourself.
