Lytle County, Tennessee has fallen on hard times. Jobs are scarce. But local officials have lured a developer who is planning on building a large retail complex on a 1000 acre tract of land in a remote area of the county known as Hayden’s Ridge. However, he must close the deal quickly because the land is full of natural beauty, including a breathtaking waterfall which has attracted the interest of conservation groups. In an effort to speed up the acquisition, the developer has hired Henry Davidson’s company to perform a survey of the property. While he and his crew are out surveying on Hayden’s Ridge, Henry has a sublime encounter with a strange ape-like creature who watches him from the shadows then calmly turns and walks away. But what seems to be just a puzzling anomaly in the day-to-day course of Henry’s life takes a deadly turn when a deer hunter and, a week later, a hiker are viciously attacked and killed on Hayden’s Ridge. Strange tracks have been found at the sight of the first attack and eyewitnesses have described a large ape as the attacker. But how could that be true? And besides, Lytle County does not need any bad publicity to stand in the way of the planned development. Henry is disillusioned by the inaction of local officials. Turning to social media, he tells the world what has happened and arranges a hunt to go find the creature!
