In Jareth Eaton's first original short story, Carl Draper is a retired contractor working as a Gate Attendant for the small gated commmunity of Whispering Pines. Upon starting his week on the nightshift at the community's two gates, he is informed of an unknown predator lurking throughout the areas surrounding Whispering Pines by a coworker. Carl dismisses this information at first as a joke being played on him. What Carl doesn't know is that on this stormy night he is about to come face to face with a creature that is no laughing matter.
