Vampire Dawn

It is the year 1778 and vampires come to Portland, Jamaica in the West Indies for one thing only: peace. In Portland they are able to live in secret safely tucked away from the world. At least it’s what Neloc is told when his maker, Alfanso moves them half way across the globe to a land where the white master rules the slaves. Alfanso tells Neloc that as long as he abides by the rules and doesn’t reveal himself, they could live in Portland for a long time. And it seems to be working except, Neloc hates his life and he doesn’t care that Alfanso seems to be hiding. Neloc despises the rules and it irritates him that as a new vampire he has to learn things. Camilla is a slave who is under threat of death from her Master because her parents ran away and he’s adamant that he will use her as an example of what happens to those who defy. Camilla knows it’s not her parents’ escape that has the Master troubled, but rather her mother’s leaving. Camilla finds solace in the Master’s son and uses him shamelessly for whatever protection she can get. She feels she has no choice and will do anything to save herself, including sneaking off at night to avoid a guard who feels he can take any slave girl he wants, just because the Master lets him. Neloc and Camilla cross path one fateful night when Neloc is forced to commit a deadly act in order to save her and in doing so breaks the one rule Alfanso insists that they live by. The guilt is heavy and Neloc feels he must confesses except he wakes to find Alfanso gone and later learns that his Master and the man whom he considers his father has been taken. Overnight, Neloc's life is in chaos, and his very existence threatened. He comes to understand Alfanso’s reasons for seclusion and insistent lessons but it all seems too late. Suddenly, Neloc is thrown into a white man’s world and finds himself the protector of those he loves and the hunted of those who wish to take all the power and rid them from the earth. Vampire Dawn is a story of love, devotion and sacrifice and how easily it all can turn to evil.
