Yda Addis's Wild Tales & Mysteries were written and published from 1880 to 1893, before she disappeared in 1902. This collection represents an evolution of relationships between the sexes. Where the early stories show women not aggressive, nor physically violent, yet psychologically clever. However, as Addis matures, as a writer and an individual, gradually her female protagonists become stronger and then murderous. In the last story her protagonist through a moment of rage tears apart her rival.
