I don’t know if you have ever been to Harlan, Kentucky, but if you have, I’m sure that you’ve heard the legend of Blue Lantern Mountain. There are three mountain ranges here: Pine Mountain, Big Laurel, and Blue Lantern Mountain. Before the coal mines opened, this was a simply dreadful place to live! They say that when it’s drizzling rain, and the fog is hanging low over Blue Lantern Mountain, you can see “blue lights” dancing in every hollow. It’s been said that this is when ghosts come out to play! Rumor has it, if you get very quiet, you can hear a death rattling moan that will send chills up your spine. The folks in Harlan don’t talk very much about Blue Lantern Mountain, so don’t expect a straight answer to that question. The real answer is one we found out for ourselves. There are some things that are better left unspoken, that is, if you want to stay alive!
