Reflect tells the story of Larry Harris, who one day discovers a seemingly innocent connection to the past in the lake water behind his home. But, he soon finds that connection may not be so innocent, and the Civil War past it represents may not be set in stone. Larry’s current reality is at stake, as is that of those around him. The authors, Professor Umar Muhammad and Dr. Mark Janas, both faculty members at Saint Augustine’s University in Raleigh, North Carolina, had worked together for a decade in minor league sports and at the University before partnering on their latest project. Janas, a budding science fiction and paranormal writer, had already published a handful of novels, but an early draft of one of those books, Reflect, never felt quite right. It needed something to be truly finished. That’s when Janas called Muhammad for help. The story needed African American context and perspective to be truly finished, and Muhammad provided the needed guidance. The result is a compelling, captivating, and thought-provoking story that can be enjoyed by all readers.
