Amelianu and Carthart remain locked in the forest realm of Verdoon. They seek knowledge of Amelianu’s ancestry and an ancient creature that can pierce the skin of the Tezgrul murderers planning to alter Stratos’s civilization. Meanwhile, on the wind world of Stratos, a resistance waits for the Tezgrul leader Didgmicruuth’s return. Through preparation and surveillance, victory is thought possible. Coradryx reflects on the devastating events before being tasked with investigating suspicious activity. Upon inquiry, he unravels a hidden cult that by itself could subdue Stratos. In a desperate act of haste, Coradryx and two companions make for Verdoon with the only three gemstones able to open the inlet. Their hope being that Amelianu and Carthart found what they sought.
