In the summer of 1976 Dublin is in the midst of a heatwave and Gregory Perkins is plagued by an unshakable insomnia. It is not the heat, however, that keeps him awake. By night, his past echoes through his sleepless mind, and by day it jars against the comfortable yet mundane reality of the life he now lives. Despite the success of his prestigious art dealership, he is troubled by regrets, his sins and his weaknesses, as well as his strained family life. Yet it is something else, something which has its origins in Gregory's darkest memories, which soon awakens, and forces him to confront an evil unlike anything he has ever known.
