Who murdered the ghost in Kat's attic?Writer/apprentice witch Kat and psychic Burmese kitty O'Leary live in a Victorian house with a crack in a basement wall leading to alternate realities and a garden with a fairy nest full of malevolent sprites.Kat has dealt successfully with all her home's weird characters, and now resolves she's had enough of paranormal screwiness. That works until she discovers in her attic a portrait of beautiful Marguerite, a former resident, who can talk and step out of her portrait but can't leave her room.Marguerite is desperate to find the person who murdered her. She can't go after him, so she decides Kat is just the one to catch the culprit. Reluctantly Kat agrees.Kat and O'Leary enter the portrait and find themselves in Marguerite's Victorian times, where they discover not only the murderer, but a second murder and a wicked witch. Danger is all around, and Kat and O'Leary barely escape with their lives each time they visit the past.Husband Cary and the four other Grant cats are strongly opposed to her participation in these goings-on, but Kat says only, “I promised to help find the murderer and bring him to justice.”And a promise is a promise, according to Kat.
