Mortal Dire: Book Two, Delgado

"Delgado" is the second book in the Mortal Dire series. The story unexpectedly brings John and Zed back to the small town of Dyer. Since their last visit, the vacant village is now flourishing with new businesses, construction, and the new Greater Dyer Church of God, led by Preacher Bob. During the demolition of the old Dyer church, a small locked chest was discovered. Preacher Bob does his best to get the message to John, knowing Zed had found the possible key. However, someone else finds this out as well. A vengeful and powerful evil invades Dyer to claim what is in the locked chest. As John prepares to wage a battle once again to save the town, he must also contend with his own demons. A struggle ensues with his greatest enemy, himself. Is John's faith in himself and his companions strong enough to overcome the sinister abomination and discover the mysterious contents of the chest before it's too late? Only God knows.

About the Author

Cory Kovacs was a product of the '70s. Born in 1971, he grew up in the times of creative toys, great music, and a plethora of endless cartoons. With the animated empires of Hanna-Barbera, Looney Tunes, and Tom and Jerry to grow up on- the stage was set. Cory had a passion for humor and with the Star Wars films, an eye for science fiction. The '70s and '80s also led into a time of great "slasher" and horror movies, including such films as "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre," "Halloween," "Friday the 13th," to name a few. This fueled a liking for the horror genre for Cory. In 1979, the release of a mini-series based on a book from a new author named Stephen King greatly influenced Cory. To this day, Salem's Lot is one of Cory's favorites and still gives him chills. Along with 1985's Fright Night, Cory's love for vampires was born. Fresh out of high school, Cory pursued a dream career of stand-up comedy and had moderate success in being a featured act and house MC at well-known Comedy clubs in the Midwest and Southeast comedy circuits. This is where Cory honed his skills in humor and writing his own material. Then, in about 1992, Cory purchased a Smith Corona typewriter and began to peck out the beginning of "Mortal Dire." As life stepped in, his writings got pushed to the back burner. The typed pages in a manila envelope, in a folder, in a chest, in a basement. Fast forward into his 40's, with a computer, the internet, the ability to "self-publish," and a glance at Cory's bucket list, a book or two needed to be written. Also, being an avid animal and dog lover, Zed was born and cast as one of the main characters in the story. Zed's character is based on Cory's beloved dog, Ernie, who past a few years back. Growing up in the '80s, with a love of horror and vampires, a love of dogs, with a twist of humor, as well as being an ordained Minister and  Paranormal investigator- the recipe to Mortal Dire.
