The shield that bears love's mark bears too marks of crimson rain. When Celeste learns of a manuscript containing the darkest secrets of her brother's past, she discovers it in the most unlikely of places and peruses its contents. In his confessions, Lord Kessler recounts in vivid detail the unforgettable events of his final year in Austria. A nighttime promenade on a deserted isle brings the young captain face to face with a mysterious damsel whose melancholic eyes and strange smile entice him heart, body, and soul. Love quickly turns into hate, however, as he finds his life forever changed and in a way he never imagined. Felicia N. Cheung is a Human Resources doctoral student at McMaster University, Canada.
