Dahlia and her best friends, Hugo and Astrid, must keep their secrets. They are friends that consider one another family, on a planet that doesn’t allow either. They also hide the fact that they are not like the others. Unlike the rest of their class, they are not mind-controlled. If they show they can control their thoughts and feelings, unlike most of the people on Apache L, they will lose each other forever. Dahlia has a secret of her own, one she hides even from Hugo and Astrid. She secretly reads journals she found hidden about a female named Patricia. She dreams of her at night. Somehow, she knows that she and Patricia have a special connection, and she is important. Just how important Dahlia will soon find out. One or both of them may be the key to saving everyone. The three friends have to help each other fight those who are controlling their minds with virtual reality. Along the way, they encounter others who may be allies. The twins, Dan and Stan, introduce them to the underground, where they can hide from those in control. Tisha proves helpful with her medical training and savvy computer skills. The six of them must save each other and their planet from the ones trying to destroy them. Dahlia has to overcome many struggles as she comes under attack from descendants from her bloodline and from her friends, who may not be as trustworthy as she thought. She questions everything she thought she knew. How will this group maintain their hidden existence, free of mind control? How will Dahlia overcome the evil from her bloodline? Can they trust one another and work together for the good of themselves and their planet? Can they get help from the other planets? Who can they trust, when at every turn they find new threats?
