Rebecca Strange has been uprooted from the town where she grew up. Now her life is in Nutfield and she soon finds out that she is at the bottom of the caste system in her school. When Lisa Kennedy targets Rebecca, she does so ruthlessly. Not only is she tormented in school, bullied and humiliated, but there is something lurking in her new house. At the top of the stairs in her bedroom is a small plywood door. Just large enough for a single person to get through on their knees. Inside the space on the other side is a darkness that hungers for light. Trapped in this new town, Rebecca has no friends and no one to save her from the door at the top of the stairs.
