Bertram Mitford creates an anti-hero as protagonist and weaving throughout the story a deliberate look at racial attitudes and cultural differences within colonial- Africa. The arachnid-beast in the climax of the story is am amazing character. The first part of the book is a romance while the latter part is a fun action/adventure story.
