VooDoo Ville: An East Texas Vampires Book 2 (East Texas Vampir...

In the closing days of World War II, the good ship Liberty Bell navigated the rain swollen backwaters of the Louisiana bayous. Its original destination was scheduled to be Mobile Alabama. The ship's captain, Joseph Vo-Doon, was very much concerned for the safety of his secret cargo. Hidden in the ship's hold were more than 350 paranormals. The coded message he received diverting him to New York's Ellis Island was all the indication he needed to realize that the US Government had very sinister interest in the vampires, witches, werewolves, fairies, elves, and the other assorted supernatural creatures he had aboard. With the help of the group’s members, his ship could disappear from any official records. He managed to hide the ship in the back water bayous of Louisiana. Once hidden, the ship was cannibalized and its equipment and materials were used to transform the sleepy fishing village of Port Paresseux (Lazy Harbor) into a modest town. In addition to the paranormal refugees, the resident population of the adjacent village of Villdu-Pêche had a large number of Gator-men, Gar-folk, Swamp Foxes and even a group of Swamp Thangs. All of these were under the protection of Madam Cauchemar, a very formidable VooDoo priestess. The close of World War II brought on a national surge of home building activity. The Para-Soo lumber mill was formed to help meet this demand for building materials. The witches developed a special No-Rot wood enchantment that was very popular with contractors. The Wayfarer Transit Company established a transfer center on land donated by the new city of Vo-Doon Ville. Yes, life in Vo-Doon Ville was pretty nice. After 70 years of peaceful existence, calamity struck. The Para-Soo lumber mill was closed down by the EPA, and the Wayfarer Transit Company pulled out because the causeway to Lafayette had been weight restricted due to damage from a hurricane. This all but totally eliminated all the jobs in the little town. The economy was in free-fall. The paranormal residents of Vo-Doon Ville could not just pick up and leave like the ‘normal’ population already managed to do.With thousands and thousands of square feet of empty warehousing and hundreds of repossessed homes, the new city leaders (the old city council resigned and left town) decided to start up a film studio. Giselle the Vampire Killer was canceled because of a YouTube video of the series star, Amber Marie, making a combined rant/striptease complaining about the show and Tinsel Town in general. The newly formed Consortium could purchase the rights to the show and Amber Marie’s contract for a remarkably low figure. (Thank you Vampire and Witch mind control!)Of course, there were a few problems to iron out. The TV show, Giselle the Vampire Killer, had a large number of paranormal workers and the move to Vo-Doon Ville would be a welcome relief. Instead of dealing with television censors, the show would be made for Net Surf, a subscription video service. In addition, the series would shift to a new direction. Instead of grisly vampire slayings, the show would encompass all sorts of other paranormal creatures, including Vampires, Witches, Werewolves, Fairies, Elves, Gator-men, Gar-folk, Swamp Foxes and even a few Swamp Thangs. The empty housing would become the studio’s back lot, and the non-normal entities would be encouraged to appear in their true forms whenever possible to attract tourism. The edges of reality would be blurred by an area-wide enchantment and various witches’ potions.Of course, the potential for problems would always be present. Amber Marie’s high school acquaintance was hiding out from her home town crime boss. Additionally, Charlotte Landers and her friend Tia are trying to hide out from the Committee, An illegal group of very senior vampires unhappy with the newly reformed Ruling Council for the vampire nation.Yes, it is a recipe for disaster.
