In Red Hook, Brooklyn, Gerald Johnson a practitioner of ancient Egyptian religion makes contact with something non-human, unknowable and incomprehensible. Around him, things stir in the neighborhood due to crime and racism while residents start experiencing terror on an unfathomable level. Racist and homophobic cop Malone instigates matters that lead to riots. Immigrants and one trans woman who just wants to be left alone have to deal with prejudice in the midst of this. Meanwhile, unknown visitors from our possible future must do what they can to prevent a descendant of Nephren-Ka, an ancient evil from being consumed by darkness, a darkness that will be responsible for an Outer God to end all life. This story plays off the racism in Lovecraft’s book Horror at Red Hook, by flipping it on its head where the immigrants are the protagonists and Malone, a possible descendant or not of Detective Malone of Lovecraft’s book is the antagonist.
