Ainsley Harper has lived her life with the barest of knowledge about any of her family except the grandfather who raised her. He goes silent when she asks questions, and she’s not allowed outside after dusk. But she can’t ignore the night sky, the way she’s called to the stars. One night, while her grandfather is asleep, Ainsley is visited by a childhood friend, one she had been convinced was only imaginary. The creature brings a short note and a horrible idea: sneak out into the night, into the forest, to meet with someone who might have the answers Ainsley has longed for. What she discovers is more than answers. All around her, Ainsley finds herself deep in the politics of the fey, a strange and beautiful people within a world that runs on magic-made technology. The rules here are odd and old. The stars don’t stay in the sky, and ships don’t sail on the sea. Ainsley might find it all enchanting, except the man on the throne is a false ruler and has wanted her dead for years. Her newfound maybe-friends-maybe-foes seem to think she can set things right, that she has some sort of information that can help them turn the tides. She may get the answers she’s been looking for, but they won’t be the ones she’s been expecting. And in Faerie, everything comes with a price.
