Lycanstein

LYCANSTEIN is the result of a scientist's obsession to play GOD. When combining the DNA of multiple living organisms, sometimes the combination can create a "new" life form. Or it can over develop the natural abilities of ancient ones. These experiments can become uncontrollable and spawn horrors from our darkest nightmares. While searching for cures to terminal diseases, Dr. Tim Lycan, with a DNA sample from a prehistoric archeological find, starts a chain of events that could destroy mankind.

From the Inside Flap

There is truth in the fact that most legends and myths are based on an actual set of events that have been added too or stretched to include the super natural. After centuries of rebirth, these stories can spark ideas that mankind can turn into reality. Modern science is to blame for a lot of the tragedies we experience today. The atom bomb, germ and poisonous warfare, terrorism are only a few. When scientist started mapping DNA sequences, this opened up an entirely new direction of thought into the make up of how humans were put together and where they may have come from. It also showed them how animals developed from the beginning of time. Now this brought about new theories as to how diseases and sickness could be dealt with and cured. That is . . . . until an unknown blocker of the DNA sequence showed up. This troubled the scientist, because it was a barrier that could not be breeched. Unknown at the time, it was the pre-cursor of things to come. This barrier was to become one mans obsession. Dr. Tim Lycan took it upon himself to break this barrier, and find the missing link that eluded the greatest minds in the world. Little did he know, is that his discovery would be the rebirth of mankind's fears. T. G. Powell

From the Back Cover

Barb remembered that the she had forgotten about the sheriff. He was still asleep in the hospital bed. Jules phoned him. When his phone rang he swung his feet off the bed and reached for his phone which was in his jacket pocket hanging on a chair. Jules told him, "Well you slept through all the fun!" The sheriff grabbed his jacket and walked out into the hall. "Oh did I now? And just what did I miss?" He asked as he walked by the recovery room where the lady from the park was being kept. He glanced in and seen it was empty. Jules was in the process of telling him about their adventure when his uncle interrupted him. "Hold on a sec." He asked the nurse about the woman from the park. He noticed she was not in the recovery room. The nurse told him that they had moved her to a regular room and that she should be waking up soon. Sheriff Knepp told Jules that he was going to ask her some questions then he was going home. He asked Jules to give him a call later that evening and finish telling him his story. Jules informed him of the fate of his deputy. "DAMN." Was all he could think to say. Then Jules told him he would call him later. The sheriff stopped in on Marvin Thomas. He peeked in his door and found Marvin sleeping soundly. He walked on down the hallway to the nurse's station. He asked a nurse at the station which room the woman was put in. She looked on her chart and told him, "room 206." He opened the door slowly and went into the room. It was very dark and he could see that she wasn't in the bed. He knew she had been heavily sedated. Then the bathroom door opened behind him. The light spilled into the room and an enormous shadow rose up over his head. It had pointed ears and in the profile he seen a long mouth full of fangs. He heard a deep guttural growl. He closed his eyes and said . . . . "OH SHI" . . . .

From the beginning of time, creatures ruled the earth. There were so many different species that Darwin would have been overwhelmed. His theory of evolution had no base in this world. As time went on, only the dominate species survived. One by one the weak were consumed by the strong. But just like the Arrow Frog of South America, each had its own way of protecting itself. The Arrow frog secretes a very deadly toxin through its skin that will kill any predator that tries to eat it. The Iguana has the ability to break its tail off to confused and slow an attacker's pursuit. Some newts and salamanders can regenerate limbs and even spinal cords and vital organs. Much in the way that anti-venom is made by injecting the diluted poison of snakes into a host until it builds an immunity to the poison; it is also believed that if eaten for periods of time, the results would be the same. The being that consumed these types of animals would evolve, eventually taking on the characteristics of what it eats. This is the story of one such creature. Crypto-zoologist's have always marveled at the reports and myth of Bigfoot. There are new sightings every year in the Pacific Northwest. Scientist, believe that the Bigfoot or Sasquatch as it's known by many Indian tribes, is actually a giant ape that never evolved. Gigantopethicus was an ape that stood well over 10 feet tall and his weight was estimated between 800 and 1500 pounds. These apes migrated from Asia using the frozen Bering Strait land bridge escaping a great bamboo die off that nearly wiped out the Panda population. Switching its diet to include meat, much like its African relatives did in order to obtain protein when plants and insects were scarce. These great apes were also quite elusive. Living in caves and competing for food with the great bears and all the other predators of North America. Also they were very intelligent and possibly the strongest creatures to ever walk the earth on two legs. This story begins with a "Giganto", who had a taste only for meat. Giganto knew that he could forage for food in places others could not because he could over turn large boulders to find snakes and lizards. He would raid the dens of wolves and badgers when the parents were away and dine on their offspring. This also meant he came into contact with many animals that were diseased with rabies and distemper. This didn't matter to Giganto. He mated and raised his offspring to follow in his footsteps. Eventually they became just like him. The dangerous life they lived was cause for their demise. Then one day while foraging for food, one great ape came across the cave of one of his arch rivals, a great Cave Bear. The smell of fresh blood was heavy in the air and he was in search for an easy meal. It was snowing extremely heavy and winter had taken its hold on the land. He wandered into the cave where a female had just given birth to her cubs. Expecting to find her in deep hibernation, he was confronted by the bear. Cave bears stood a towering 15 feet tall and weighed as much as Giganto. Extreme power and lightning fast reflexes were also in her favor. The bear sensing danger to her cubs, rushed straight at Giganto and the fight was on. Teeth and claws were slashing deep wounds into the great ape. He fought back with his great strength picking the bear up and slamming her to the ground. Then attacking and digging his 4 inch fangs into the bear's neck. The bruin slashing her rear claws into the apes belly ripping four long gashes that bled heavily. Then, with no warning, the hillside came alive. A great avalanche fell from high up the mountain face. The roof of the cave opened up and ton upon ton of glacial snow and ice, mixed with trees and rock burying the cave and all inside. And it is here where modern day archeologist came across the two behemoths still locked in battle, but frozen solid for thousands of years.
