"Face Off" is story #7 in "The Bethesda Wars". There has never been a character like Willie Charm. A horrible accident left him without a face at the tender age of three. He is horrible to look at: no eyes, external nose, or lips. His face is a horror movie mask come to life. But Willie does not let it get to him, not the stares, not the black veil he is forced to wear over his face when he goes out in public. He is upbeat and warm, as beautiful on the inside as he is horrific on the outside. And there is much more to Willie than meets the eye. Blind since the horrible accident, his other senses become much more acute. He hears conversations which had taken place days before. He senses all that is happening around him. The police department take an interest: can young Willie turn his extraordinary skills of perception to assist in unsolved cases? He does, and he succeeds beyond their wildest imaginations. But the local police are not the only ones who have noticed Willie Charm. Two fighting organizations: one a secret government Compound located in Bethesda, Maryland; the other, the WhiteShirts, a religious organization with very questionable methods, have also taken an interest. Soon Willie's life will be turned upside down, as he is thrust into the middle of The Bethesda Wars.
