Gene Campbell, a recovering alcoholic and ex con, is the manager of a fairly prestigious restaurant in Portland, Oregon; but his circumstances turn bad. His relationship is sour but worse, an old enemy is out to kill him. Gene holds fond memories of Klamath Falls in rural southern Oregon. He visited his grandfather there when he was ten. These memories and Gene’s situation draw him to return there. Coincidence, fate or stranger forces lead Gene to a particular house near the Baldwin Hotel and Museum in Klamath Falls. Eerie events guide him to discoveries about his grandfather and his grandfather’s lover, Maud Baldwin. Maud was a regionally famous photographer who drowned herself in the river near her father’s Baldwin Hotel. This occurred in 1926, two years after “Granddad” Gene Campbell left Klamath Falls. The story weaves historical facts with supernatural fiction told through a colorful assortment of characters set in a town full of western history and Native American lore.
