In an instant, the life of Jonas Winters screeches to a halt. A single event pulls his very existence into a gray void which drags on day after day for a year. Instead, Jonas wakes up confused and alone in a jail cell. Accused of a crime he didn't commit, he now has to deal with crooked guards, brutal inmates, and a weary Merrillville PD detective working to hit him with the death penalty. With nowhere to turn, he finds help in the unlikeliest of places. "I'm a devil, not the devil," Deanna McGee explains as Jonas reaches the end of his rope. She offers him an opportunity to fight back against the railroading of his good name. All she asks in return is his soul and some help in reaching her own goals. Before long, Jonas has to wonder if the ends truly justify the means as his deal with the devil gets him in over his head.
