Samuel: a gothic horror short story

Are they trying to take him? Is the shadow in the temple only in my mind? Surely the convent is a safe place. It has to be.I hold my Samuel's hand as we approach the convent. In the pale moonlight, it's our one hope for refuge. He stumbles.I lift him up, as his eyes get heavy. I can't help smiling at his innocence. My past is a blur. I know I've been through much, but I've never been broken. As long I have my precious little boy, I won't be broken. The convent blocks out the moon and I stumble to the door. Hoping and praying they'll let us stay, for the night, for the fast-approaching winter. If only I had seen the signs, listened to the rumors. If only I had let us starve. Freeze to death. Anything would have been better than stepping into that house of evil.Samuel is a gothic horror short story. Please enjoy!
