Flesh for your Romeo Excerpt (The Graveyard Games Book 1)

Delaney Forrester was just trying to spend her Friday ritual of going to a B flick, ordering over her over buttered popcorn snack, soda pop, and enjoying a night without reservations. But instead she was attacked by a hungry bum on the way and awoke in the morning in the hospital with no recollection of how she got there. Trying to fit the pieces together upon her discharge she'll find herself battling a forbidden love, the occult, and a mysterious man who keeps pulling her behind out of danger the further she delves into a world she doesn't belong in. Excerpt:It was brisk outside, something to be expected since the fall season had just started, and I zipped up my faux leather jacket pulling the hood over my head and walking at a fast pace. The sign above the theater from here read ‘Tonight Mega Piranha’ and I chuckled some looking off to the left when I heard the sound of a tin can drop and roll around. One of my instincts told me that it could just be an alley cat fumbling in the dumpster for something to eat but my vision showed me a man clothed in one step up from rags. He had no shoes, wore a large beat up trench coat, and tore up jeans. Filth covered him entirely and he looked over at me as I stared awkwardly.“Ms. Could you spare me something to eat?” He pleaded walking shakily towards me and I reached into my back pocket grabbing my wallet. I had a soft heart for the homeless. Most were war veterans, or people who had no families or had lost their houses and all their worldly possessions. Before I could finish grabbing some money out of my wallet his hand latched onto my wrist and I looked up at him terrified by the grip that he had on me. The smell of copper wafted into my nose as his breath left white puffs in the chilled night air. It was dark so I could only make out a strong jaw line filled with thick grey beard hair.“Sir, please let go of me I don’t have anything to eat on me, but I have a few dollars to spare for you to be able to get something.” Black eyes. They stared at me almost as if they were looking through me and I pulled out the money hoping he would drop my wrist and take it. “Sweetheart there is plenty to eat on you.” His mouth turned up into a deep sneer and he began to laugh softly. I tried to free my hand from his grip and reached into my jacket pocket for my can of pepper spray. Then suddenly I was on my back and was being dragged down the alleyway screaming for someone to help me. Once we were far enough into the darkness he dropped me and I tried to scramble to my feet. He caught me by the hair and wretched me up sinking his teeth into my neck holding my head tightly to right and my torso firmly close to him. No matter how much I tried to move I couldn’t and I screamed loud but nobody came. Nobody would.
