Hopeless Nights: A novelette

If you’re a skeptic at heart and don’t believe that everything is what it seems, than Osama Marta’s “Hopeless Nights” is a tale for you! After all, when you mix supernatural occurrences and real world issues together, and the battle between good and evil, then you’ll enjoy—or be revolted by-- this tale of life and death, good versus evil. Cheru is a loving young man, taking care of his younger sister after the deaths of his parents in an unfortunate accident; he strives to do his best to provide for her by cooking at a local restaurant. Meanwhile, his sister Kitty is going to school and aspiring to become a famous singer. Unfortunately, they live in a corrupt city where the decree is basically, “Don’t go out at night…you are not safe and the corrupt police will not help you then.” So most upstanding citizens huddle at home during the night, waiting for the next day’s sun to rise before stirring from hiding; most “normal” citizens will leave the thieves, muggers and murderers to their devious deeds after nightfall. And these murderers are not of our world in the usual sense of things—they’re more like powerful spirits with a lust for human blood and human hearts. Even so, some people do go out at night, even Cheru’s innocent young sister Kitty. But to do so you take on great risk. So why would young and impressionable Kitty even consider going out at night? Why would Cheru let her go out? You’ll have to read on to find out… Hopeless Nights if full of symbolism—where a good man can become a bad one…and a beautiful woman can actually be an ugly beast—a ruthless killer or a savior of mankind…you decide. Will good prevail over evil or will evil overcome any vestiges of the goodness in mankind’s hearts? You’ll be surprised. This is dark fantasy fiction, but it’s certainly no fairy tale. Hopeless Nights is a series of twists and turns that will have your head spinning—and your mind doubting what’s really good or bad!

About the Author

Osama Marta lives in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and is the elder son of his parents, two sisters and younger brother. He is currently a medical student at King Abdulaziz University. He was born in 1992, and started writing at the age of 15, after he survived a near-fatal accident while practicing acrobatic martial arts on a rooftop-and fell from the fourth floor. After that his parents forced him to quit his "crazy sports," so he felt like he had nothing to do in life. Shortly after, he discovered his love for writing, and thus began his journey. He has written many stories since then, but "Hopeless Nights," is his first published work. He has returned to enjoying his crazy sports "tricking and nunchaku."
