The year is 1903 and an unusual sideshow attraction, purchased from an old Indian, becomes a major draw for the circus. It is huge, strong and does not want to live in a cage. One of the sideshow barkers becomes its tormentor and his ill-advised actions lead to his own demise and the enraged beast escapes. After additional tragic encounters the so-called Bear Man runs loose in the town of Altoona, Pennsylvania. A young boy, and his mother, become caught up in the drama, as the police and the circus' hired guns go after the beast. Circumstances become increasingly tragic for all involved.
