Surely to the eyes of a repressed Christian, that biped bullwithout horns would seem to him as nothing less but agenetic anomaly, a defect in the scheme of the perfect manidealized by Leonardo Da Vinci; such a monster born ofwild love between two profane pagans with no possiblesalvation would be considered non-human under thesestandards, but at the time when this man had opened hiseyes, competition for resources and goods was much morephysical among tribesmen; the weight of diplomacy wasmuch lighter than we know today, as the battle wasconsidered not only necessary and just but in fact thequickest way to earn glory and prestige, even after beingdefeated.
