About the Author

Born in New York City, Henry James (1843–1916) was a playwright, travel essayist, and literary critic, and the author of a voluminous number of fictional works.A Harvard graduate, James abandoned a career in law to pursue his love of literature and writing. His imaginative use of point-of-view narratives, interior monologues, and unreliable narrators would inform one his best-known works, The Turn of the Screw. James, a three-time nominee for the Nobel Prize in Literature, is considered one of the key figures of nineteenth-century literary realism. His other notable works include The Portrait of a Lady, The Bostonians, Daisy Miller, The Wings of the Dove, and Washington Square.
