"Stranger Upstairs" finds Van Horn, a perfectly innocent party-goer, jailed in a small hallway bathroom. The sub-letting loner, pursuing a murderous rampage outside the door, confines Van helplessly as he hears his friends' killer casually walking about. Frayed alliances become frighteningly apparent as Van's true motives are exposed and his true self is revealed. This piece appears in the novel-length short story collection "Cultivating Genius: The New Century." Cultivating Genius contain this story as well as other equally challenging works of odd fiction and philosophy by the same author.
