Spineless

Slade can’t ignore them, even if others do. Their bruises, scars, anguish. The way they’re silenced, debilitated, abandoned. Like he almost was. Why should they be forsaken? Their abusers are the problem, not them. So, Slade runs a secret treatment service that erases human depravity. Victims are freed. They heal. Their lives flourish. Then former client DG contacts Slade, roadmapped in bruises and scabs, thin as a skeleton. And it’s not his abuser, who barely acknowledges him anymore. The depravity has woken anew, and now DG is compulsively destroying himself. But Slade’s current treatment will turn DG into little more than a zombie. Through DG, Slade expands his understanding of abusive cycles and his sense of compassion. But can he humanize his treatment in time? And without detection? He swears there’s someone watching him . . .
