“How far would you go to protect your family?’ ‘Where does the line lie between job and obsession?’ ‘How do you defend a city when no one wants you to?” These are questions that Jack Messer must ask himself every day as he goes in to work. An agent of the treasury department, of prohibition during the twenties, he often finds himself on the right end of the law, but on the wrong end of public opinion. In these short stories the prohibition agent and his family go up against gangsters, bootleggers and worse as Jack tries to keep his city, and his family, safe from those that would cause them harm.
