The Weir family lives in a quiet New England town with their two children. Next to their house is an old church constructed in the early 1800's. Only a few members of the church know that the inside identically matches a chamber deep under an Incan temple high in the Andes. The Weir children are being visited by ghosts that claim to live under the church. The empty Incan city of Machu Picchu, a tragedy at an abbey in Italy, the abandoned Roanoke Colony in Virginia, and the terror that is happening to the Weir family are all related to a secret. The secret has been kept safe for almost two hundred years but now the darkness is again spreading and with it an ancient evil called the Demies.
