Love Letters and Zombies

Millie Mathis is Connor Hughes’ everything. There’s a burning passion and a lifelong connection between them that refuses to be extinguished by an apocalypse. It’s the kind of love people pray for during their lifetime, but only a select few get the chance to experience it.Ever since the day Millie moved from the East Coast to a small city in Utah, Connor knew she would be his last and forever—his only. Soon, they began imagining a future together—a future only couples madly in love dream about. Millie and Connor never thought they would have to fight for their survival during a zombie apocalypse. They would never have guessed fate would separate them, leaving them to endure the dangers, roaming the earth without one another.Connor’s will to reunite with Millie is unbreakable. Even with thousands of miles separating the two lovers, Connor won’t give up on finding the person who holds his heart. With the help of Millie’s letters blazing a trail—keeping Connor traveling in the right direction—the future seems hopeful, but in a world overrun by the undead, a happy ending is never guaranteed.Love Letters and Zombies is a novel about living, loving, and surviving. It’s a book of lows and highs, a book of twists and turns, and one you won’t want to put down.Leah Hermann was born and raised in San Diego. While growing up in her parents’ home, it wasn’t uncommon for an 80s or 90s horror film to be playing in the background. Although Leah has many passions including romance, cooking, and family, she could never deny her obsession with zombies and vampires. Leah has always had a deep desire to write about monsters and fate stepped in, combining her love of horror and romance—producing unforgettable and unique novels. Reviewed by Ammaarah Seboa for Readers' FavoriteIf you are a fan of Love and Monsters as well as the Resident Evil franchise, you will love Leah Hermann’s Love Letters and Zombies. Set in the year 2030 after a parasitic blood virus breaks out and turns the infected into zombies, local business owner Connor gets separated from his girlfriend Millie when they try to reach safety with the military. With only enough space for one passenger, Connor thrusts Millie into the vehicle with promises of finding her later. On his journey to track down the love of his life, Connor meets Susie, and together they use Millie’s love letters to Connor as clues to their final objective, all the while battling hordes of zombies.Leah Hermann put my emotions through the wringer with this one! Told from Connor’s point of view, the story switches from the present to the past as he reminisces about a time before the zombie apocalypse. We see glimpses of Connor and Millie when they had just begun dating, as well as the obstacles any young couple residing in a small town would experience. We see how each character overcame their fears and conquered the zombie outbreak. Love Letters and Zombies touches on themes such as romance, zombie-apocalypse, and slice-of-life while maintaining a sense of reality regarding the situations our main characters found themselves in. I almost cried when reading this novel and I loved the ending. One major lesson I would take away from this book is to live in the moment, because tomorrow isn’t guaranteed.
