Emily Westman, seven years old, and her family have just moved to the small town of Dalton. Only a few days after their move, her father must leave on a business trip, one intended to continue his own father's legacy and secure his family's new future. Emily's mother, Debbie, is left to take care of her daughter alone, while struggling to overcome her traumatic past. Together, she and Emily try to adjust to their new surroundings. But their situation becomes perilous when Emily meets a local boy who is more sinister than anyone she's ever encountered. Slowly, she starts to fear for her family's safety. Emily begins to wonder: if some people are born good, what does that mean for those who are not?
