Grand Lands, 1905. Jaded by her boring life with her busybody grandmother, eighteen-year-old Gertrude enters the Phantom Train and thus begins her Gothic adventures as they intertwine and weave a dark maze around her. First off, she encounters ruffians on the train drinking an odorous elixir from a flask; then onto a mysterious gravedigger in the town of her dreams, who also appears to be under the influence of something sinister; mischief and mayhem follow in the Winterlands, where the odorous elixir comes from; and finally, political intrigue to dispose of the elixir once and for all. This proves easier said than done since there are a number of people experiencing paranormal side effects from said elixir. If navigating that nightmare wasn't bad enough, Gertrude is always one breath away from being murdered, the only way she doesn't want to die.
