About the Author

Wayne Barlowe is an author and illustrator who has created images for books, film and galleries. After attending Cooper Union he started his career painting hundreds of paperback covers for all of the major publishers and magazine illustrations for LIFE, TIME and NEWSWEEK. After completing a STAR WARS pop-up book for Random House (his first solo book project) he went on to write and illustrate BARLOWE'S GUIDE TO EXTRATERRESTRIALS, EXPEDITION, BARLOWE'S GUIDE TO FANTASY, BARLOWE'S INFERNO, BRUSHFIRE: Illuminations from the Inferno, THE ALIEN LIFE OF WAYNE BARLOWE. His paleontological paintings can be found in THE HORNED DINOSAURS and the children's book, AN ALPHABET OF DINOSAURS, both written by Dr. Peter Dodson. Barlowe's character and environment designs can be seen in the multi-platform games, PROTOTYPE, DANTE'S INFERNO, SHADOW OF MORDOR and SHADOW OF WAR. His film designs can be seen in many movies and TV shows including BLADE2, GALAXY QUEST, HELLBOY, HELLBOY 2, HARRY POTTER AND THE PRISONER OF AZKHABAN, HARRY POTTER AND THE GOBLET OF FIRE, AVATAR, PACIFIC RIM, PETE'S DRAGON, BLACK MIRROR and ALIEN PLANET, a 2005 Discovery Channel special based on EXPEDITION for which Barlowe was executive producer. His first novel, GOD'S DEMON, was released by Tor Books in 2007. Zenpunk, a Chinese based collectibles company, is releasing its first 1/6th figure, based on his infernal paintings, imminently. Two of Barlowe's scripts, THE BLACKNESS and EPILOGUE are in development for theatrical release. A compendium of his Hell artwork entitled PSYCHOPOMP, will be released later this year.Barlowe is currently at work on his third novel, LUCIFER'S SOUL.
