The Pinnacle: a short story

The duty had fallen to Cor to take his nephew Daron to the top of the Pinnacle, for no one else dared. The hard part was making a game out of it so that the boy would not suspect. Some lies were necessary for the greater good, after all. Weren't they?

About the Author

Hi there :-) I'm Gaines. Most of my writing can be categorized as science fiction, fantasy, and supernatural-themed stories, though I do occasionally wander into other genres, including the autobiographical. I also make weekly blog posts at The Otherspect Blog ( otherspect.com ), and am active on Goodreads ( goodreads.com/gainespost ). Born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee, in the US, I graduated from high school with dreams of learning every language on Earth, becoming a professional jazz flutist, and acquiring a horse (somehow!) and riding off into the grasslands and misty mountains of Central Asia, never to set foot in civilization again (...and to be honest, I've also never lost the childhood desire to be one of those cool people who study dinosaurs!). Well, I did immerse myself in Chinese language and literature, and I did spend a few years performing with various bands; I've even gotten lost in the wilderness a time or two (or five or six or...). Eventually, however, I found my way here to southeastern Australia, where my soulmate and I are now married and living very happily together in the Blue Mountains. More about my fiction-writing can be found at otherspect.com.
