Halesia is a small rural town with an odd name and big secrets. It was founded in the 1800s. Everything else about it is just a rumor.Corbin Wilde returns to Halesia after 20 years to bury his father Harold, who has been brutally murdered. His plan is to attend the funeral and go back to Chicago on the same day, but the town had other plans for him. A series of strange events begin to unravel when he meets Sheila, a morgue technician, who tells him a little secret the town’s doctor was not willing to share.Faced with the warning that his 7-year-old son Kyle might be in danger, Corbin is forced to investigate his father’s death and fight the unknown enemy. The search for answers evokes long-forgotten and painful memories of a bad childhood, Harold’s vicious temper, and his physical, emotional, and mental abuse. Things spin out of control when more gruesome and inexplicable murders occur and it becomes clear that something bizarrely mysterious and sinister is happening in Halesia. The town, overtaken by superstition and fear, traps Corbin in its invisible iron grip, making it impossible for him to leave. With no help from the town’s distraught sheriff, and with Sheila by his side, Corbin sets out to discover the source of the evil, while facing his own demons.Author’s note: This story of Halesia could not be told without mentioning content some readers might find upsetting, such as, but not limited to suicide, violence, gore, references to drug addiction and abuse, and graphic descriptions of corpses. If this type of content might cause distress, please read with caution. Also, beware of the plot twists.
