A Spark in the Shadows

BLACK MAGIC RITUALS! GOVERNMENT CONSPIRACIES! GRAVE-ROBBING MUSICAL HOBOS! Recently expelled teenage burnout Jon Parra is left homeless when his surly mother kicks him out of their shared unit in a housing project on the outskirts of an otherwise affluent community in Central Pennsylvania. While crashing at the home of a well-off buddy, he meets Andrea Abernathy, the upstanding captain of the high school soccer team who has recently decided she needs some adventure in her life, and they quickly form an unlikely, though inexplicably deep, bond. They are both unaware, however, that a ruthless businesswoman, an aging, occult-obsessed British rock star, and a high-ranking government official are converging on their serene little town to raise the demon warlord Baal through a black magic ritual. That changes, though, when they stumble into the heart of the conspirators’ lair--a menacing pentagonal mansion atop a notorious hill--and learn that they intend to use Andrea as a sacrifice in their unholy rite. With the help of a band of improbable allies, Jon and Andrea must use their uncanny bond to unlock the secrets of their town’s grim past; battle a debauched cult, a corrupt local police force, a bloodthirsty beast, and their own insecurities; and save humanity from infernal decimation at the hands of Baal and his armies of the damned!
