The Earthrise Visits is a ghost story set in New South Wales, Australia. The principal male protagonist is an old writer who normally lives reclusively. Don is visited by a playful ghost who, he begins to suspect, is the ghost of the 1920s young woman who was known as the (fictional character) 'Lady Ashley'-- a close friend of 'Jake Barnes,' another fictional character in Ernest Hemingway's "Fiesta. The sun also rises." On the occasion when Don's novelist friend and lover, Rivka, comes to visit, they together witness the ghost. Subsequently, the ghost visits Rivka as well as Don and it is realised that the playful Brett is 'helping' each writer by influencing their work. A second ghost appears and there is some argument as to whether this is the ghost of Hemingway or the ghost of the character, Jake Barnes...
