There was a cult called 法の華三法行 Hō No Hana Sanpōgyō led by Hogen Fukunaga who claimed he could give a diagnosis based on reading people's feet.

He would then sell scrolls and ornaments for thousands of dollars to relieve people of curses and other ailments.
