A true crime / survival mystery from the Siberian wilds: in August 1993, seven hikers entered the Hamar-Daban Mountains of Buryatia (near Lake Baikal)—and only one walked back out. What happened on that windswept ridge has been called the “Buryat Dyatlov Pass”: a sudden storm, a frantic descent, and then a cascade of bizarre symptoms—foaming at the mouth, blood, panic, and collapse—leaving six bodies scattered on an exposed ledge while a terrified teen survivor staggered to a river and found help. 
Officials ruled hypothermia and closed the case. But the details refused to stay buried: claims of missing eyes later attributed to scavengers, questions about food and exhaustion, and theories ranging from toxic exposure to military testing to the possibility of cold/altitude-related pulmonary edema.
